Etfora Verdict
Choose VUSA over CSPX only if you specifically want dividend income (retirees, income-focused investors). For most European investors, the accumulating CSPX is more tax-efficient. Both track the same index at the same cost.
What Is VUSA?
VUSA is the distributing version of Vanguard's S&P 500 tracker. It holds the same 500 US large-cap stocks as CSPX but pays out dividends quarterly instead of reinvesting them. One of the largest and most liquid ETFs on European exchanges.
The S&P 500 Index
The S&P 500 index tracks the 500 largest US companies by market capitalisation. It represents approximately 80% of total US equity market value. Technology, healthcare, and financials are the largest sectors.

VOO (Vanguard S&P 500 ETF)
VUSA is Vanguard's own UCITS version of VOO. Identical index, same issuer, Ireland-domiciled for European tax treaty benefits. The distributing structure makes it the direct equivalent for investors who want dividends.

- Quarterly dividend payments for income-oriented investors
- Massive AUM (€45B+) ensures excellent liquidity and tight spreads

Things to know
- Distributing ETFs trigger dividend tax events in most European countries
- Belgian investors pay 30% dividend tax on each quarterly payout — CSPX is far better
- Dutch Box 3: no difference between accumulating and distributing for tax purposes
- German investors: Vorabpauschale may be lower than actual dividends, making distributing slightly less efficient
- USD-denominated — FX conversion fees apply unless your broker holds USD
