About Etfora
Etfora is an independent platform for European retail investors. We cover brokers, UCITS ETFs, country-specific tax guides, and business accounts — with no bank backing, no sponsored rankings, and no agenda beyond helping you make better decisions with your money.
What Etfora is
Etfora started from a simple observation: most investing resources available online are either US-centric (built for VOO and Fidelity users, not UCITS ETF investors), overly generic, or written by people with a financial interest in what they recommend.
European retail investing has its own rules — UCITS regulation, dividend withholding tax, country-specific broker availability, and a completely different product universe. We built Etfora to cover that specifically.
We cover the Netherlands, Germany, France, Spain, Belgium, Italy, Poland, and Sweden — with broker recommendations, ETF analysis, and tax guidance tailored to each market.
Editorial independence
Our broker rankings and ETF assessments are based on our own research and methodology — not on what brokers pay us. No broker can pay to improve their score, appear higher in a ranking, or receive a more favourable review.
We maintain a strict separation between editorial assessments and commercial relationships. A broker having an affiliate agreement with us has no influence on how we score or describe them.
Affiliate disclosure
Some broker profile pages contain affiliate links — marked with "Open Account" buttons. If you click one of these links and open a funded account, Etfora may receive a commission from the broker at no cost to you. This never affects our scores, rankings, or editorial content. We link to brokers we would recommend regardless of whether an affiliate relationship exists.
How we score brokers
Each broker receives an overall score out of 10, calculated as a weighted average of five sub-scores. Sub-scores are assigned based on direct research: we review fee schedules, test platforms, read regulatory filings, and cross-reference with user feedback. Scores are not automated — they are editorial judgements made against a consistent rubric.
| Score | Weight | What it measures |
|---|---|---|
| Overall Score | — | Weighted average of all five sub-scores below. |
| Beginner Score | 20% | Ease of account opening, quality of educational resources, app usability, and absence of confusing products (CFDs, margin) on the main interface. |
| Passive Investor Score | 25% | ETF and index fund availability, savings plan support, custody fee structure for buy-and-hold investors, and UCITS fund catalogue depth. |
| Active Trader Score | 20% | Per-trade commission, advanced order types, charting tools, market access breadth, and real-time data quality. |
| Large Portfolio Score | 20% | Custody fee structure at €100k+, investor protection limits, regulatory jurisdiction quality, and institutional-grade security. |
| Safety Score | 15% | Regulatory status, investor compensation scheme coverage, segregation of client assets, and years of operation without major incident. |
How current is the data
Financial data changes. Broker fees shift, ETF TERs get cut, tax laws are amended. We maintain the following update schedule:
| Content type | Update frequency |
|---|---|
| Broker fee tables | Quarterly or on broker announcement |
| Broker overall scores | Every 6 months |
| ETF data (TER, AUM) | Quarterly |
| Country tax guides | Annually, or when legislation changes |
| Broker Updates feed | As events occur |
| Weekly Intel posts | Every Friday |
| Business account data | Monthly |
Individual pages show a "Last reviewed" date. Always verify critical fee information directly with the broker before making a financial decision.
Not financial advice
Nothing on Etfora constitutes financial advice. We provide information, comparisons, and independent analysis to help you research your options — but every investment decision is yours to make based on your own circumstances.
If you need personalised financial advice, consult a licensed financial adviser in your country. For EU investors, your national financial regulator maintains a register of authorised advisers.
